June 30, 2023

Five men from the congregation at St John’s Church in Goole are gearing up to take on an impressive hiking challenege to raise money for the church.

The group will take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks on July 1 to raise cash for the cause as well as marking the 175 year anniversary of the church. The challenge will see the group complete a 24.5 mile hike, scaling Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent, which is expected to take around 12 hours to compete. Jonny Patton, worship and operations director at the church, is one of the men taking part in the challenge. He said: “The group has been training for a couple of months and it’s been going well. We are slowly getting used to the hills! “We wanted to do something big to mark of occasion of the church’s 175 years. 175 years at the centre of our town, and we also wanted to raise funds to keep it there for another 175 years!” People can donate to the fundraiser by visiting https://www.stewardship.org.uk/pages/SJG3peaks or by dropping money in to the office at the Spire Centre, opposite the church.
